Reel Stories Fall 2009 Series

Documentaries have long served as an educational tool able to inform people about different places or issues. Now, they are serving as a public forum for discussion of a wide range of social, cultural, economic and environmental issues.

The following programs made up the fall 2009 Reel Stories Documentary Film and Discussion Series:

Seed Swap
October 9, 2009

Seed Swap examines the second annual event of the same name, which took place in Mountain View, Arkansas, on February 21, 2009. Although the event only lasted just over three hours, hundreds of varieties of heirloom seeds were exchanged. This film shows that through the continual process of sharing and growing seeds, people pass on agricultural knowledge; eat healthier, locally grown food; and lead more self-sustaining lives.

Panelists:

  • Zachariah McCannon, filmmaker and director
  • Dr. Brian Campbell, producer; professor of anthropology, University of Central Arkansas
