Killer at Large
Why is obesity a matter of national security? What government policies might contribute to our alarming increase in obesity? Are there local actions that can make a difference in Arkansas?
Written and produced by three starving filmmakers, Killer at Large discusses the causes, the effects and the politics behind the obesity epidemic in America. Through the eyes of artists, cafeteria staff, writers, and celebrities such as Arnold Schwarznegger and former President Bill Clinton, this film sheds new light on the numerous health, psychological and mental problems endured by all who suffer from this life-threatening physical state. With over 60 percent of Arkansas’ adult population at an unhealthy weight and with 37 percent of them considered obese, the time has arrived to look into ways to reverse the current trend.
Killer at Large presents contemporary options for all generations in prevention efforts. Filmmaker and producer Bryan Young joined the following health experts in a discussion that examined the rapidly growing obesity epidemic in Arkansas and the U.S., the role the media plays in the issue, and what Arkansans can do to combat this silent killer:
- Dr. Margaret Bogle, Executive Director of the Delta Obesity Prevention Research Unit with the USDA Agricultural Research Service
- Dr. Esther Winterfeldt, Emeritus Regents Professor of Food, Nutrition and Institution Administration at Oklahoma State University
